Alien Breeds Déjà vu

Alien Breed? Wait a minute didn’t Valve already do that one?
As I am sure some of you may have noticed the new game on Steam Alien Breed: Impact, a remake of the old classic from the Amiga, what is curious is how similar the games looks to each other.
The gameplay seems to be the same, with the same goals, except that Alien Breed only offers 2player co-op and one campaign and at $12.99, its at a clear disadvantage to Alien Swarm’s 4 Player co-op, many campaigns, RPG element, custom servers and maps and at the amazing price of Free. It seems that Alien Breed came out a month too late.
To be fair, Alien Breed has much better graphics and does seem to have a lot more effort put into it by Team17, just looking at the trailers you can tell, but for the life of me I can’t tell who stole whose idea. Valve do have the resources to churn out a game like this quite quickly so it would make sense for them to undercut them. I guess we will never know.
You can check it out both for yourselves on Steam.

As far as I know, Alien Swarm was originally a UT200(4?) modification, but Alien Breed saw it’s first release in 1991. Alien Breed has been running with the top down view since the beginning.
I, personally, wouldn’t say anyone stole anyones idea. Both are unique despite the similarities, and there’s definitely inspiration at play there, but theft? Not in my book!
