Black Ops Mod Tools To Arrive In May

For the PC community, the ability to modify a title can be a huge selling point. As well as allowing some cosmetic customisation, it also increases the longevity of a game, with community made maps, game types, equipment and weaponry. Good news then, that Black Ops should be getting it’s own set of mod tools in May.
Treyarch’s Twitter account mentioned that the team are aiming for “mod tools release in May”, a statement confirmed through retweet -Twitter terminology, yay!- by Community Manager Josh Olin.
Details of the mod tools, are still unkown, so whether you’ll be seeing overhauls or just re-skins is yet to be seen. That said, the engine that runs Black Ops -based on source code from id Tech 3- is a versatile platform, so the ability to make extensive modifications is there, whether that ability will be given to the community is another matter.

I’ll be astounded if you can make maps and map assets with this. Especially if the next map pack isn’t their last. Makes little sense given the history of Activision’s duplicitous approach to DLC.
