Sony’s shiny new handheld misses Christmas rush after all.
Last week the ever reliable Blockbuster Video released their forthcoming pre-order deals, including Sony’s PS Vita, citing it’s release as October 28th. Today it has been officially confirmed the device won’t reach Western markets until 2012.
According to the Associated Press, Sony vice president Kaz Hirai confirmed the news today in Japan. While it doesn’t seem we’ll have long to wait – the general speculation now it will be released in the UK and US in January or February – it does seem a shame that we’ll be missing out this year, after Sony waxed lyrical about a simultaneous worldwide release straight after E3.
When it finally hits the UK, the pricing will stay the same. With £229 for the Wi-Fi version and £279 for the 3G version.
The official release date in Japan has not been confirmed, however if you really really can’t wait, the device will be region free, should you decide to adopt early.
Are you looking forward to the PS Vita? Disappointed with this news? Sound off below, folks!
