New Zelda: Skyward Sword details

Details have emerged on the new potion crafting mechanic, items and areas.

Nintendo have released a statement further detailing some of the never before seen features in the upcoming game Skyward Sword.

The first of these features is a potion crafting mechanic the likes that has never been seen before in previous Zelda games. Players will be able to mix insects that they have collected with potions that they have to give said potion a more powerful effect, thus increasing it’s potency. For example where a health potion may heal a few hearts of health, a crafted health potion may heal the entirety of the players health. It is unclear as of now what other effects this may introduce.

Another announcement came in the form of two previously unseen areas to the game by the names of Lake Floria and Fun Fun Island. The inhabitants of Lake Floria are said to be a new race to the series known as the Parella tribe, they appear to be squid-llike creatures which fits with the theme that this will be a heavy swimming based area,  not unlike Zora’s Domain in Ocarina of Time.  All that was said about Fun Fun Island is that it would offer the player a lot of, well, fun. Nintendo also said that ”before Link can enjoy everything the island has to offer, he must find a way to fulfill the request of its lone inhabitant.” which adds more to the mystery of who this loner is, we can only pray that it isn’t Tingle.

Lastly was the new item to be introduced to the series which is a whip. Nintendo in their statement said that ”the whip also can be used to grab items and is integral to solving certain puzzles. Link’s items can be selected in real time without pausing the game when he is on the ground, making it easier to switch between a sword and other items.” I can already imagine the Indiana Jones style antics that Link will be getting up to throughout the game with the inclusion of this item.

What’re your thoughts on the newly announced aspects to Skyward Sword?
