Alan Wake PC Release Date And Pricing

Port of so-last-last-year action horror game Alan Wake is coming to Steam on February 16th, and other digital distribution platforms soon after.
For $29.99 (which should translate to around £20) you’ll get the game plus all the DLC, which is a fair price. For $35, you’ll get the limited edition, which is of course a digital limited edition – or as I like to call them, stupid tax. There’s no mention any retail release, which is like the future, but now!
As for the nature of the port, the site states:
PC gamers will face the darkness in stunning high-resolution graphics, refined and enhanced PC features and support for stereoscopic 3D and multiscreen.
- Experience Alan Wake’s Pacific Northwest in higher resolutions and higher fidelity than ever before
- Fully configurable mouse and keyboard support (or if you prefer to play with the Microsoft gamepad connected to your PC, you can do that too!)
- A wide selection of customizable graphics settings and support for 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios
- Multithreaded engine that takes advantage of quad core CPUs
- Additional features our fans have sought after, such as field of view adjustment as well as “hide HUD”.
- Works with AMD Eyefinity 3D 3-screen mode
- Works with NVIDIA NVISION2 Stereoscopic 3D
Stunning, enhanced and entirely standard PC features then. PC gamers with long functional memories know that Alan Wake was originally a PC – specifically Vista – exclusive, back in the days before DX10 didn’t end up changing anything (remember being excited by this picture?). Microsoft instead opted for a 360 exclusive, and only by Remedy Entertainment self-publishing has a PC release finally been possible. As Remedy state it on their own site, Alan Wake is “coming home”.
There’s no word on whether standalone Xbox Live exclusive sorta-sequel Alan Wake’s American Nightmare will also get ported. If it ever does, it won’t be soon.
So this is a “better late than never” situation, but at a reduced price along with all the DLC, one that PC gamers should look out for. If not, there’s always Steam sales.
