Rumour: Playstation 4 code named ‘Orbis’

Some ‘leaked’ information regarding the Playstation 4 has emerged on the net. Read on to find out what the rumour mill is churning out.

The rumours are being reported by Kotaku, who claim the news comes from a reliable source, who of course can’t be named. But the good news is that it’s the same source who has leaked rumours before, and the have turned out right. So what’s in store for the Playstation 4?

Well, first out of the bag is its codname, Orbis. Sounds a bit duff and is unlikely to be the final name. But, put that name with the vita and you get Orbis Vita (latin) which means cicle of life. Could this mean that the PS Vita plays a big role in the next generation machine?

As for specs, there are a whole bunch of numbers being thrown around, but here is what we have. The early build device, which developers have had since the beginning of this year has an AMD x64 CPU and an AMD Southern Islands GPU. Which means it should pump out 60fps/1080p/3D visuals. without breaking a sweat.

The bad news, for some at least is like the next Xbox, the Orbis won’t be able to play second hand games. the games will come on either Blu-Ray disc or be downloadable via PSN. Once you have bought the game, it will be locked to a single PSN account. Not a smart move if that means people in the same household can’t use the game.

Of course, this is just rumours, and if it does end up being true, the final specs are likely to change somewhat before final release. I’m happy to hear the Vita will be playing a big part in the PS4′s fortunes as its ace!
